For a local benefit show, Tapping into Twain, I channeled a character from Mark Twain's famous work, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Emmeline Grangerford drew pictures of melancholy women in various states of disarray, typically weeping. Twain used Emmeline as a way to mock the sickingly sweet romanticism of the Victorian Era... and it was a chance to draw a silly picture of a dead bird and a crying girl. I couldn't pass it up! What's better than being able to take an autumn walk with your own baby beluga? Inkwash, 2012
An illustration of the "world egg" creation myth from the Finnish Kalevala. Inkwash, 2012
I've always been fascinated with fairy tales... and The Little Mermaid is my favorite. Hands down. In the original version, the Little Mermaid eventually sacrifices her own life to spare the Prince a gruesome death, even though he has broken her heart and denied her the possibility of gaining a soul. Since childhood this has been my favorite story, and I couldn't help but capture her final moments in an illustration. Inkwash, 2012
For my senior show we were required to create a self portrait... This was during my aforementioned octopus kick, so I threw in an octopus hat for good measure. Inkwash, 2012
I went through an octopus phase. Kind of like Picasso's Blue Period, but way cooler. Inkwash, 2012
One of my first official illustrations. I'm still proud of this piece. Stippling, pen and ink 2009
A portrait of my friend and HER friend, a wiggly duck. Possibly one of my favorite pieces. Crosshatching
To celebrate Halloween we were asked to portray a scary monster... and for me, the most frightening is the witch that lives in my dryer and deprives me of the socks to keep me warm in the cold, wet winters. Scratchboard
Black and White
In a color world, I'm a black and white kind of girl!
